Porsche 911 996 Carrera 1998 - 2003 model years.

Offered for the 2002 model year, the 996 at last had a Targa in the range. Like the 993 before, it uses an ingenious electrically operated sliding glass roof to give a very light and airy feel to the interior. Available with both 2 and 4 wheel drive and tiptronic 'S' transmission. The freedom of a convertible and the security of a coupe. Like the 993 Targa I expect there will be a good demand for these on the used market.
These are superbly engineered space ships, with a sophisticated four wheel drive system, the most marvellous brakes and 420hp. A supercar to enjoy every day, and for almost any purpose. Introduced in 2000 and available with tiptronic or a six speed manual. I bought one of these for a client and had a fabulous drive across Europe - I felt quite privileged to experience such a machine on such good roads. Surely quick enough for most people, 0-62(100km) in 4.2seconds. Pic on right is a 'Techart' modified example. pic below is the interior of a 996 Turbo fitted with 'comfort'

The 911 GT2 is the latest example of a race-bred tradition that is unmistakably Porsche. The engine, develops 462 bhp which makes this the most powerful road-going 911 ever built. Based on the shell of the 911 Turbo, the racing origins are in evidence throughout this Porsche. The chassis has a range of set-up options to suit individual requirements, the brakes are Ceramic (earliest models were steel). The aerodynamics of the were specially developed with a fixed spoiler on the engine cover and a large adjustable wing ( up to five degrees adjustment). The radiator cooling air system is derived from the race-winning 911 GT1 and 911 GT3 RS. As on all modern 911 models, polypropylene underbody panelling is used to enhance the aerodynamic performance of the car.
The 996GT3 was launched in 1999. Prepared for racing the car was slightly heavier than a regular 996 simply because of the additional strengthening for the body and a heavier racing motor. The motor is a 3.6, a derivation of the GT1 race motor and with 360hp. picture left a 996GT3 in speed yellow.
The GT3 rolled out the factory door with racing suspension, a bi-plane rear wing and different aerodynamics. Although fitted with turbo seats, the other trim was deleted. Air con and a stereo were options and so too was a Clubsport version with a bolted in rollcage. The picture right is of a 996 GT3 Clubsport. Note the bolted in roll cage, the lightweight seats and the fire extinguisher.
